The exhibition was designed to be sensitive to Istanbul and its history both as a departure point and host for migration, while simultaneously linking the city with a wider discourse on this topic. Kiran Kaur Brar and Melanie Manchot both presented new work made in Istanbul during Residencies earlier in the year and funded through the British Council. Mike Nelson created an installation from concrete and ottoman wood which he built with local builders in situ (see photos above and Artists section). Olaf Nicolai's piece was also a new commission. During the opening weekend, the International Curators Forum (ICF) presented a symposium on the project at the Akbank Sanat. Speakers included artists Adam Chodzko, Zineb Sedira, Denizhan Ozer (Koridoor), curators Peter Cross and Alice Sharp, and ICF Director David A Bailey.
